Pictured: Rhine II, currently the most expensive photo to have sold at auction at $4,300,000 (USD).
Let’s get this out of the way: You could have taken that photo everybody is talking about, or painted such and such art that’s all the buzz in the news and made a fortune for reasons beyond your immediate knowledge.
but you didn’t.
It never crossed your mind to create such an image, and that’s probably the reason the phrase “oh wow even I could have done that” fell out of your mouth, probably with a snarky tone of voice- to show you don’t actually like the art, and you really don’t like that it’s getting so much attention for what you think is so little effort.
Learn composition, train your eye, edit photos to explain your views and express your feelings. Don’t just sit there with your arms crossed, talking with disdain about how you could do better despite potentially having no understanding nor means to create a piece that might not be your kind of art in the first place.
I want you to get out there and do something profound; you are an artist, there is something you’re good at that not everyone else can do. You have your own ideas, your own style, your own way of conveying a message. Create something simple in practice but complex and meaningful at heart
something that you know would make the crowd ask themselves why they didn’t think of it first.
Go spend some time and act on your artistic urges instead of romanticising about how much attention you could get if you did that thing that’s someone else accomplished.
^^^^^ This.
I actually like that photo a lot. That composition hnnngh.
